PIN codes and NFC cards give people faster ways to identify themselves at a control surface than typing a full username and password each time. Both are configured per user, alongside their regular password.
Before you begin#
- Access to a user's authentication settings.
- For NFC: a connected surface device capable of reading NFC cards, and the physical card or fob you want to assign.
Set up a PIN#
- Open the user's authentication settings and select Set PIN (or Change PIN if one already exists).
- Enter a PIN of 3–20 digits, numbers only.
- Confirm the PIN by entering it again.
To remove a PIN, select Remove PIN and confirm. The confirmation is explicit that the user won't be able to use PIN authentication afterward until a new one is set.
Assign an NFC card#
- Open the user's authentication settings and select Add NFC Card.
- Select which positions should listen for the scan.
- Scan the card on any connected surface device that supports NFC: it appears in a live Detected NFC Cards list as it's read.
- Optionally give the card a Card Label to tell it apart from others.
- Confirm the assignment.
A single user can have several NFC cards assigned, but each physical card can only belong to one user at a time: assigning an already-assigned card fails until it's removed from its current owner first.
Remove an NFC card#
Find the card in the user's list of assigned cards and select Remove, then confirm.
If you get stuck#
What you see | What to try |
|---|
The PIN won't save. | Confirm it's 3–20 digits and numbers only, and that both entries match. |
A card won't scan during assignment. | Confirm you're scanning on a surface device that's connected and NFC-capable, and that the position it's tied to is selected before scanning. |
Assigning a card fails with an "already assigned" error. | Remove the card from its current user first, then assign it to the new one. |
A user can no longer sign in with their PIN or card. | Check whether it was removed from their account, re-add it if it should still be active. |
