Buttons/Reference/Internal actions reference

Internal actions reference

Internal actions are Buttons-native actions (no connection module required), available from the same action picker as any connection's own actions. This page lists every one that exists, grouped by what they operate on.

Position, section, and button variables#

Action
What it does
Key fields
Set Position Variable
Sets a variable in a position: the current one, or another.
Position (This Position / Other Position), Variable, Value
Set Section Variable
Sets a variable in a parent section, including a shared section.
Target (parent / specific), Variable, Value
Set Button Variable
Sets a variable in a button, including on another position or a shared section.
Target (self / specific), Variable, Value
Set Active Step
Sets which step is active on a multi-step button.
Button target, Step number
Set Active Page
Sets which page is active on a Folder or Shift section.
Section target, Page
See Use variables in controls and expressions.

Workflow#

Action
What it does
Key fields
Set Workflow Variable
Sets a workflow-scoped variable from outside the workflow itself.
Workflow, Variable, Value
Set Workflow Enabled
Enables, disables, or toggles one or more workflows.
Workflows (multi-select), Enabled (True / False / Toggle)
Trigger Workflow Action
Triggers a Workflow Action node inside a workflow, supplying that node's configured options.
Workflow, Workflow Action (which node, by its Title), then one field per option defined on that node

Note

Set Workflow Variable is only available on buttons and positions: it can't be added as an action inside the workflow editor itself. Trigger Workflow Action is available both on buttons/positions and inside the workflow editor's own Internal Action node, so one workflow can trigger a Workflow Action node in another workflow.

Cuelist#

Action
What it does
Key fields
Cuelist Command
Advances a cuelist.
Cuelist, Command (Execute selected (GO), Select next, Select previous)
There is no fourth command to stop or reset a running cue: see Run a Cuelist.

Popover#

Action
What it does
Key fields
Set Popover State
Opens, closes, or toggles a Popover: local to the current position, on another position, or in a shared section.
Position/shared-section target, Popover, Command (Open / Closed / Toggle)
See Popover sections.

Routing#

Action
What it does
Key fields
Take Route
Takes one or more source/destination route pairs at once.
A list of source/destination pairs, added via a crosspoint dialog
Execute Routing Preset
Executes a saved routing preset (a salvo).
Routing Preset
Router Context Action
Performs one of roughly three dozen Custom Router actions: selecting or taking sources/destinations, managing levels, tally channels, labels, projects, and routing presets within a Custom Router context.
Action (sub-action picker), plus fields specific to that sub-action
Router Context Action's sub-actions largely mirror the buttons available in the Routing Presets panel: see the Routing Presets panel reference for what each one actually does. A few sub-actions (matching-preset selection/toggle/clear) are generated internally and aren't offered in this action's own picker.

Surface#

Action
What it does
Key fields
Set Surface Settings
Changes a surface's assigned position, grid location, or display brightness.
Surface target (current / assigned to this position / assigned to another position / a specific surface), toggleable settings for Assigned Position, Grid Location, Display Brightness

Session#

Action
What it does
Key fields
Logout Session
Logs out authenticated sessions on a position (PIN, passkey, and similar identification).
Position (defaults to the current one)

Note

This action is off by default, behind an internal feature flag: it won't appear in the action picker unless it's been specifically enabled for your deployment. It's unrelated to the Kick User control on Understand and manage sessions, which is an admin-facing Settings control, not an action you attach to a button.

Trigger#

Action
What it does
Key fields
Trigger Button
Simulates a press, release, or press-and-release on another button (or the current one).
Action (Press / Release / Press & Release), target button, Delay (only for Press & Release)
Abort Button Actions
Stops the actions currently running on this button, without waiting for them to finish on their own.
Skip release actions: when on, running actions are stopped without also firing the button's own release/duration-based actions afterward
This isn't related to workflow triggering: a workflow's own trigger behavior is configured on its Internal Action node directly, not through this action.

Other#

Action
What it does
Key fields
Set Connection Enabled
Enables, disables, or toggles one or more connections.
Connections (multi-select, or all), Enabled (True / False / Toggle)
Set Tally Test Mode
Turns test mode on, off, or toggles it for a Tally provider or consumer.
Target Type (Provider / Consumer), Target, Mode (On / Off / Toggle)

If you get stuck#

What you see
What to try
You're looking for an action to stop or reset a running cuelist.
It doesn't exist: Cuelist Command only offers Execute selected (GO), Select next, and Select previous.
Logout Session doesn't appear in your action picker.
It's off by default behind an internal feature flag: it may not be enabled for your deployment.
You expected a display on/off toggle in Set Surface Settings.
It isn't currently exposed in the UI, even though it exists in the underlying data model: don't rely on it.
A Router Context Action sub-action you expected isn't in the list.
A few matching-preset sub-actions are generated internally and aren't user-selectable: check the Routing Presets panel reference for the full set of what's actually offered.
