Routing Presets panel reference

The Routing Presets panel (opened from the Routing tab in the position editor's sidebar) is where you drag buttons into a Custom Router. This page lists every button type it offers. See Build a focused routing panel with Custom Router for a hands-on walkthrough using a subset of these.

Utilities#

Button
What it does
Take
Routes the currently selected source and destination, or a selected routing preset if one is selected instead.
Release
Releases the selected destination.
Release Project
Releases the selected project's claimed resources.
Archive Project
Archives the selected project.
Clear Selection
Clears both the selected source and destination.
Clear Source
Clears only the selected source.
Clear Destination
Clears only the selected destination.
Clear Project
Clears the selected project.
Clear Routing Preset
Clears a selected routing preset.
Clear Preset
Clears a selected matching preset.
Reset
Resets the whole Custom Router context: selection, levels, tally, project, and preset.

Labels#

Read-only text buttons that display the router's current state, rather than acting on it: Selected Source, Selected Destination, Active Source, Active Destinations. Buttons of this kind also exist to switch which label type (User, Setup, Installation, Ext Custom Label, or Name) the panel's other buttons display.

Levels#

One button per level (Video, Audio, Data) that toggles whether that level is currently active for the router. An active level highlights.

Projects#

One button per project that isn't archived, generated automatically from your current projects. Pressing one toggles it as the router's selected project. A selected project's button highlights.

Routing Presets#

One button per saved routing preset (called a salvo internally). Choose the button's behavior with Preset Button Type:
  • Direct Take: pressing the button executes that routing preset immediately.
  • Select Preset: pressing the button selects the preset without executing it, so a separate Take button can confirm it.

Virtual Matching Presets#

One button per configured virtual matching preset, for pattern-matching routes between virtual shapes. Pressing one toggles it as the router's selected matching preset.

Source and destination buttons#

Generated from your actual routing resources, grouped as Physical Source, Physical Destination, Virtual→Virtual Sources, Virtual→Virtual Destinations, Virtual Source Edges, and Virtual Destination Edges. Each is a real port or bundle you drag into the router.
Source Button Type and Destination Button Type at the top of the panel choose how these buttons look and behave once placed:
Source variant
What it shows or does
Normal Selection
Selection, compatibility, contribution, and tally marks together.
Simple Selection
Selection only, in a larger text layout.
Direct Take (Highlight Active)
Takes immediately on press; highlights when it's the active source.
Simple Direct Take (Highlight Active)
Same, in a larger text layout.
Direct Take (Red Tally)
Takes immediately; shows red tally state.
Direct Take (Green Tally)
Takes immediately; shows green tally state.
Direct Take (Red and Green Tally)
Takes immediately; shows both tally colors.
Destination variant
What it shows or does
Normal Selection
Selection, compatibility, active source, and tally marks together.
Select Destination
Selection only, in a larger text layout.

Where to go next#

  • Build a focused routing panel with Custom Router using a Take button and source and destination buttons.
  • Understand Custom Routers for the take modes and control modes these buttons operate under.
