Buttons/Cuelists/Control a Cuelist from a Position

Control a Cuelist from a Position

A button on a Position can help an operator advance a Cuelist without opening the Cuelist editor itself: useful when a show is run from a surface rather than a screen showing the cuelist directly.

The Cuelist Command action#

There's no dedicated Cuelist control block to drag onto a canvas: instead, add the Cuelist Command Internal Action to an ordinary button, the same way you'd add any other action.
  1. Select the button that should control the Cuelist.
  2. Add the Cuelist Command Internal Action.
  3. Choose the Cuelist it should target.
  4. Choose the command: Execute selected (GO), Select next, or Select previous.
This is the same action available inside the Cuelist editor's own transport controls and inside a Workflow: placing it on a Position button just gives an operator physical access to it.

A simple show-control layout#

A common layout uses three buttons per Cuelist: one with Select previous, one with Execute selected (GO), and one with Select next: giving an operator the same step-forward/step-back/go control a dedicated Cuelist device would, without leaving the Position they're already working from. Note that Execute selected (GO) already advances the selection to the next cue on its own after running, so the Select next button is mainly there for repositioning the selection without running anything: skipping a cue, or catching up after backing up with Select previous.

If you get stuck#

What you see
What to try
The button doesn't affect the Cuelist you expect.
Confirm the Cuelist Command action's target Cuelist: a control left pointed at the wrong one will run silently against the wrong list.
You want a button to jump directly to a specific cue rather than stepping through the list.
This isn't available as a single action: select the cue in the Cuelist editor, then use Execute selected (GO) from there or from a control pointed at the current selection.

Where to go next#

  • Read and advance a running Cuelist.
  • Create your first button.
