Buttons/Routing/Routing Presets

Routing Presets

A routing Preset stores a list of source-to-destination mappings so they can be recalled together. Use one to prepare or restore a known routing setup without selecting each route again.
Routing Presets were previously called salvos. They are unrelated to the button presets supplied by connections and to Virtual Matching Presets.

Warning

Executing a routing Preset can change several destinations at once. Build and test this example with non-production ATEM destinations.

Before you begin#

  • Add a working ATEM connection with the source and destination resources you need.
  • Confirm that your account can create routing Presets.
  • Use destinations that are not carrying production signals.
This example stores a small ATEM setup containing routes from known inputs to non-production M/E or auxiliary destinations.

Build a Preset from staged routes#

  1. Open Routing.
  2. Filter Sources and Destinations to the ATEM connection.
  3. Select the first source and destination. Buttons stages their port mappings without executing them.
  4. Select the + control at the bottom. Its tooltip reads Add to Preset.
  5. Stage another source and destination, then select + again.
The temporary Routing Preset panel accumulates the mappings. Adding them to the panel does not execute the routes.
If a new mapping targets a destination already in the temporary Preset, the newer mapping replaces the earlier one for that destination. A Preset stores one intended source or release operation for each destination.
In the temporary panel, you can:
  • Remove an individual mapping.
  • Select mappings and choose Clear Selected Routes.
  • Select Clear to discard the entire temporary Preset.
  • Select Execute Preset to run the temporary mappings without saving them.

Save the Preset#

  1. Review every source and destination in the temporary Routing Preset panel.
  2. Select Save.
  3. Enter a Routing Preset Label that identifies the setup's outcome.
  4. Add a Description when operators need more context before execution.
  5. Select Save, or select Save → Open to save it and open its detail page.
The saved Preset appears under Routing → Presets.

Capture routes that are already active#

You can build a Preset from the current routes of selected destinations instead of staging new source choices. This is useful when the controlled system is already in a known state that you want to recall later.
  1. Open Routing and set Active to Live.
  2. Select the destinations whose current routes should be captured. Do not select a source.
  3. Select the + control. Its tooltip reads Add Active Routes to Preset.
  4. Open the temporary Routing Preset panel and review the captured source-to-destination mappings.
  5. Select Save and name the Preset.
Buttons captures the source it resolves for each selected destination at that time. Review the temporary mappings before saving, especially if a destination has no active source or its state is uncertain.

Update a saved Preset#

Open Routing → Presets, then select the Preset.

Add or replace routes#

  1. Select Add Routes.
  2. Stage source and destination mappings in the routing dialog.
  3. Select Add Routes in the dialog footer.
Mappings for new destinations are added. If a staged mapping uses a destination already in the Preset, it replaces the existing mapping for that destination. Turn on Add multiple when you want the dialog to remain open for another batch.

Remove routes#

  • Use the remove control on one mapping to delete it.
  • Select several mappings and choose Remove Selected.
  • Choose Clear All to remove every mapping from the Preset.
These actions change the saved Preset; they do not undo routes that have already been executed on connected systems.

Replace mappings with current routes#

Select the mappings whose destinations should follow the current live state, then choose Replace with current route. Buttons replaces the stored source for each eligible destination with the source currently resolved for that destination.
Review the changed mappings before relying on the Preset as a restore point.

Add a Preset control to a position#

A Custom Router can present saved routing Presets as operator controls.
  1. Open the position editor and select a Custom Router.
  2. Open the Routing sidebar, then find Routing Presets.
  3. Choose how the generated control should behave:
  • Direct Take executes the Preset immediately.
  • Select Preset adds it to the selections owned by the Custom Router so the operator can use Take afterward.
  1. Drag the Preset into the Custom Router, or select it and place it in an empty slot.
  2. Select Apply.
Use Select Preset when the layout should separate selection from execution. Direct Take creates intentional one-press execution and should be placed where an accidental press will not disrupt production.
A normal button can also use the Buttons internal action Execute Routing Preset when the control does not need Custom Router selection state.

Where to go next#

  • Build a focused routing panel with Custom Router using Preset selection and Take controls.
