Buttons/Positions/Use a connection's presets

Use a connection's presets

A connection preset is a ready-made button, section, or popover supplied by a connection module, designed by whoever built the module to give you a working control without assembling actions and feedback from scratch. Dragging a preset onto the canvas can save real setup time, especially for a connection with many similar controls, such as an ATEM's inputs or a lighting fixture's scenes.
Connection presets are unrelated to routing Presets (saved salvos of routes): this page is about button-and-section templates supplied by a connection module.

Before you begin#

  • A position open for editing.
  • A connection whose module actually supplies presets. Not every module does, and not every action a module offers has a preset equivalent. If you can't find what you need here, build the control manually from the module's own actions and feedbacks instead.

Find a connection's presets#

  1. Open the position editor.
  2. Select the Presets tab in the sidebar (distinct from the Routing tab, which holds routing Presets and salvos).
  3. Search or select a connection from the list.
If a connection has no presets, the panel shows No Presets: try a different connection or build the control manually.
Selecting a connection opens its preset groups, such as an ATEM's Program and Preview buses and its Transitions controls:

Choose how presets should be placed#

Each connection's preset view has its own settings, reached from the gear icon under Preset Mode:
  • Button: drag one preset button at a time onto the canvas.
  • Section: drag a whole preset section, with all of its buttons, onto the canvas at once.
  • Popover: drag a preset designed to unfold over other controls, the same way a manually built Popover Section does.
Two further switches shape what gets placed:
  • Use category as context: apply the preset's category as the placed button's context label.
  • Preview Feedbacks: preview how a preset's feedback will look before you place it.
There's also a Button Style control to set the visual style presets are placed with.
A section preset wider than the visible panel doesn't hide its extra buttons: it stays reachable in a horizontally-scrolling strip, with a faded edge marking where it's cut off:

Place and adjust a preset#

  1. Search the connection's presets if it has many.
  2. Drag the preset you want onto an empty area of the canvas: a Drop presets in the canvas to insert them message confirms you're in the middle of a drag.
  3. If a section preset has more buttons than fit in the visible width, the extra ones stay reachable in a scrolling strip rather than being hidden entirely.
  4. Once placed, edit the result like any other button or section: delete individual buttons you don't need, resize the section, or restyle it.
Placing a section preset creates independent buttons on your canvas: nothing about it stays linked back to the module's own preset definition, so edit freely afterward.
A Button preset dropped on the canvas becomes a normal button you can select, restyle, or delete like any other:
A Popover preset behaves like a manually built Popover Section: pressing it unfolds its buttons over the canvas until it's closed again.

If you get stuck#

What you see
What to try
A connection you expect to have presets shows No Presets.
Not every module supplies presets. Build the control manually from that connection's actions and feedbacks instead.
You can't find a specific preset among many.
Use the search box inside the connection's preset view: it searches both preset names and their contents.
A dropped section preset has buttons you don't need.
Select and delete the specific buttons you don't want; be careful to select individual buttons rather than the whole section.

Where to go next#

  • Create your first button, for building a control manually when no preset fits.
  • Add a Popover Section, for the manually built equivalent of a Popover preset.
